Perché fidarsi della nostra classifica?

Weight-loss supplements are products taken by mouth that claim to help you shed pounds, curb appetite or burn fat. The honest starting point is that the science is thin: according to the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, there is little evidence that most of them work, many are expensive, and a few can be harmful. The better-studied ingredients may offer modest support alongside diet and activity, but none replaces them, and this ranking exists to separate that small signal from a lot of marketing noise.

We rank products on three things: what real users tell us after weeks or months of taking them, how each formula lines up with peer-reviewed research, and how transparent the label is about doses and ingredients. The reviews on this page come from ordinary people who actually bought and used the products, not from brands. We do not get paid to place a product higher, and we flag weak evidence and stimulant risks as openly as any wins. Where the research is mixed or absent, we say so plainly. Supplements are not medicine, are not regulated like drugs, and do not replace advice from your doctor, so treat this page as a research starting point, not a prescription.

How to choose a weight-loss supplement

Lower your expectations first. Read the label, not the front of the bottle, because no pill matches the results of a sustained calorie deficit, more movement and better sleep, and the trials behind even the most-studied ingredients tend to show small effects measured in fractions of a kilogram. At best, a supplement is a minor nudge on top of those habits.

Favor single, well-dosed, well-studied ingredients over long proprietary blends that hide how much of anything you actually get. Be especially wary of products built around large stimulant loads or vague “fat-burning” claims, and of anything promising dramatic, fast results. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has repeatedly found weight-loss products spiked with hidden prescription drugs such as sibutramine, a banned obesity medication, sold as “all-natural.” If you do try something, give it a fair window: meaningful trials usually run twelve weeks or longer, so a few days tells you nothing, and check with your doctor first if you take medication or have a heart or metabolic condition.

Key ingredients and what the evidence shows

Caffeine and green tea are the most common active ingredients. The catechins and caffeine in green tea may have a modest effect on body weight, but a Cochrane review of trials lasting at least twelve weeks found the weight change in adults taking green tea preparations was very small and not likely to be clinically important. Effects vary with the product and the person.

Glucomannan, a soluble fiber from konjac, is marketed to curb appetite by expanding in the stomach. Earlier reviews suggested a small benefit, but later systematic reviews of randomized trials concluded that the evidence for meaningful weight loss remains weak and inconsistent. Higher protein intake has the more consistent support, not as a fat-burner but through satiety: a systematic review reported that people who increased dietary protein lost on average approximately 1.6 kilograms more than controls, partly by feeling fuller and eating less.

Many popular “fat burners” rest on weak or mixed evidence. The NIH’s NCCIH notes the science does not support acai berry, bitter orange or green tea supplements as effective for meaningful weight loss, and that each carries side effects. None of these is a guaranteed fix, and results differ widely between people.

Safety, dosing and when to see a doctor

Weight-loss supplements are not risk-free, and because they are sold as supplements they are not tested and approved like drugs before they reach the shelf. The biggest concern is stimulants: products with large amounts of caffeine or caffeine-containing herbs like guarana can raise heart rate and trigger abnormal heart rhythms, palpitations and higher blood pressure. Banned or dangerous ingredients still surface in this category, including ephedra (linked to serious cardiovascular events and pulled from the U.S. market) and the banned stimulant DMAA. A separate concern is the liver: high-dose green tea extract has been linked to rare liver injury, and certain individual fat-burner products have been flagged for liver toxicity, so this is a risk tied to specific ingredients and doses rather than supplements in general. Follow the dose on the label rather than assuming more burns faster, and tell your pharmacist or doctor what you are taking, especially if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart or liver disease, or take any medication.

Some symptoms call for immediate emergency care: chest pain, fainting, or a racing or irregular heartbeat. Others mean stopping the product and seeing a doctor if they persist, including severe anxiety, insomnia, yellowing of the skin or eyes, and any rapid unexplained weight change. These can signal a reaction or an underlying condition that needs proper medical attention. If a product promises dramatic results or hides its full ingredient list, treat that as a reason to walk away.

Domande frequenti sugli integratori per Supplementi di perdita di peso

Do weight-loss supplements actually work?

Mostly not in any dramatic way. According to the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, there is little evidence that weight-loss supplements work, and several have side effects. A few ingredients, such as caffeine, green tea catechins and higher protein, may offer a small effect on weight or appetite for some people, but the changes in trials are modest. They may give a minor nudge alongside diet and activity; they do not replace them.

How long before I notice any difference?

Most clinical trials that found any benefit ran for twelve weeks or longer, so a fair trial is months, not days. If a product promises noticeable weight loss in a week, that is a marketing claim, not a clinical finding. If nothing has changed after a couple of months of consistent use alongside a sensible diet, the supplement is unlikely to be doing much for you.

Are fat-burner supplements safe?

Not always. Many rely on large doses of caffeine or other stimulants that can raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause palpitations or abnormal heart rhythms. The FDA has repeatedly found weight-loss products spiked with hidden prescription drugs like sibutramine, and dangerous ingredients such as ephedra and the banned stimulant DMAA still appear in this category. If you have a heart or blood-pressure condition, or take any medication, talk to your doctor before using a stimulant-based product.

Can a supplement replace diet and exercise?

No. No supplement matches the effect of a sustained calorie deficit, regular movement and better sleep, and that is true even for the best-studied ingredients. At most, certain supplements may offer a small extra push on appetite or energy. Any product marketed as a way to lose weight without changing how you eat or move is overpromising.

Are weight-loss supplements regulated like medicines?

No. In the United States and most markets, dietary supplements are not reviewed or approved for safety and effectiveness before sale the way prescription drugs are. That is one reason hidden, banned or mislabeled ingredients turn up in this category. Buy from reputable brands, look for clear dosing on the label, and check the FDA's public notifications if a product seems too good to be true.

Are the reviews on this page real?

Yes. The product reviews come from people who bought and used the supplements themselves and shared their experience over weeks or months. We keep a mix of positive and critical feedback rather than only flattering comments, because that gives a more accurate picture of how a product performs in everyday use.
