Profolan is a hair-support supplement in capsule form, and I tried it because I had started noticing more hair in the shower drain and on my dark pillowcases. I wanted less daily shedding, not a miracle, and that was the main thing I was watching for.

I took Profolan for six weeks and stuck to the labelled daily serving. I usually took the capsules with breakfast, most often after toast or yoghurt, because taking them with only coffee left a slightly sour taste in my mouth. I kept the bottle beside the cereal so I would not forget it.

The first week did not give me much to report. My hair still came out when I washed it, and I still found strands on my jumper. I was not expecting instant growth, but I did catch myself checking my hairline in the mirror more than usual.

By the end of week two, I noticed a small change. There seemed to be a little less hair wrapped around the shower drain after washing. It was not dramatic, and I could not say with certainty whether it was the capsules or just a better week for my scalp. I kept going because the routine was easy enough to stick with.

Week three was when Profolan started to feel more worthwhile to me. I had less shedding when I ran my fingers through my hair in the evening, and I noticed fewer loose hairs on my desk after a long day. My hair did not suddenly look thicker, but it did look a bit less flat when I dried it.

What I liked, and what I did not

  • The capsules were easy enough to swallow, though they felt a bit large when I did not drink enough water.
  • I had a mild queasy feeling on two mornings when I took them without eating first.
  • I noticed an odd herbal aftertaste once or twice.
  • I did not notice headaches, skin irritation, sleep changes, or a greasy scalp.
  • The waiting was the hardest part, because six weeks felt long when I wanted obvious results.

By weeks four and five, my hair looked a little more settled. The crown did not show quite as much scalp under the bathroom light when my hair was freshly washed, although it was still noticeable. I saw a few short hairs near the front, but I cannot honestly claim Profolan caused them, because hair grows in cycles and I had also stopped tying my hair back so tightly during that time.

The improvement I felt most confident about was reduced shedding. I still lost hair every day, which is normal for me, but the amount seemed less alarming. My brush was easier to clean. That felt like a modest win.

Profolan did not give me a fuller hairline, and it did nothing for the shape of my receding temples. It also did not make my hair shinier or easier to style. The thinner area at my temples stayed thin. I would not call that a failure, but it did keep my expectations in check.

I think this suits someone dealing with shedding that feels worse than usual or hair that seems weaker than before. It makes more sense if you can keep to a daily routine and give it time. I would skip it if you expect it to reverse established baldness in a month. I would also be careful if hair loss were sudden, patchy, linked to illness, or came with scalp pain or itching. In that situation, I would want a clinician to look first instead of relying on a supplement.

I would buy Profolan again for another course because the shedding improvement felt believable and the side effects were minor for me. I would not buy it expecting a new hairline or thick hair overnight. I would also keep taking photos in the same lighting, because memory is not very reliable when you are staring at your own hair every day. For me, Profolan was a slow, modest help with shedding, not a cure for thinning hair.
